Sunday Service
The processional Hymn was I.O.M 277 The intercessory prayers and sermon were taken by the Vicar, the Ven. Olasunkanmi Afolabi.
Preacher, the Ven. Olasunkanmi Afolabi took the text from from Acts 2:6&8. He defined Pentecost as the day the promised Holy Spirit came on the Apostles, marking the beginning of the Church. He said the mission mandate in Acts 1:8 was established on the day of Pentecost.
The Ven. Afolabi said the Holy Spirit was significant on the Day of Pentecost by
1. acting as a barrier-breaker: The Holy Spirit broke the language barrier that was limiting communication.
2. ensuring the disciples began to do exploits for God.
3. restoring boldness: The boldness of the Disciples that was lost since Jesus Christ was crucified was restored and they came out of their shells and began:
i. to do what they couldn’t do before.
The preacher prayed for the congregation that from this day they would begin to manifest and do things they were lacking confidence to do in Jesus name.
ii. to reach out to the unreached, and saving souls.
4. ensuring that the lives of disciples experience immediate Transformation. The preacher prayed for transformation in the lives of each member of the congregation.
5. that disciples became missioners and began preaching the gospel.
6. ensuring disciples began to perform signs and wonders e.g Peter and John at the Beautiful Gate
He said these days, so many things about us such as the way we talk, dress, dance, address issues and relate shows the lack the presence of the Holy spirit. Hence we all need the promised Holy Spirit, saying the Power of the Holy Spirit can rest on us any moment; it doesn’t have to be on the day which commemorates Pentecost. For instance Paul encountered the Holy Spirit on the way to Damascus, but he prayed that by the reason of this day we shall receive the power of the Holy Spirit in Jesus Name.
The Inter-society Bible quiz also held on this day which was won by the Fountain of Hope Society.
Member of the congregation who had their birthday in the past week was also celebrated
Recessional Hymn was from I.O.M 500 (DSB pg 102)
