Church History
Emmanuel Anglican Church is the seat of Ile-Oluji West Archdeaconry.
ESTABLISHMENT OF THE CHURCH
The vision of reaching the unreached spurred the RT. Rev. (Dr.) G.L Lasebikan, (now The Most Rev. Dr. G.L Lasebikan Rtd.) during his Episcopal visit to St. Peter Anglican Church, Ile-Oluji (now the Cathedral of St. Peter, Ile-Oluji).
The Bishop, during his address instructed The Vicar, the Ven. O Modupe (now late) and the entire congregation to look for a place of worship for her members at the Ajiferere axis (Ondo Road) of the community.
TEMPORARY SITE
So, in search of a suitable place, one of the members in St. Peters’ Anglican Church, Ile-Oluji, Mr. Isaac Adewakun (now late), who lived along the axis volunteered a place in his house and people within the axis converged there for worship. The Pioneer Priest was The Rev. O.O Okandunrin (Now Rev. Canon O.O Okandurin)
PERMANENT SITE
Thereafter, the family of the Late Ven. & Mrs David Ibikunle Okunfulure was led by the spirit of God to build a place of worship. The ultramodern Church building at Confidence Avenue was donated by the family in the name of their son, ‘Emmanuel’ of blessed memory – we are indeed grateful to them. God would continue to bless them abundantly in the name of Jesus Christ.
The Ultramodern Church building was named Emmanuel Anglican Church and was blessed for use on 18th May, 2004 at 4pm by the RT. Rev (Dr.) G.L Lasebikan (now The Most Rev. Dr. G.L Lasebikan Rtd.).
After the inauguration of the Diocese of Ile-Oluji, Emmanuel Ang. Church has undergone some structural and spiritual processes. During these period, spiritual and physical growths were also recorded. Increase in the number of worshippers and some physical developments that took place within this short period facilitated the current status.
In 2012 alone, the Church completed the building of its first Vicarage and it was dedicated by the RT.Revd S.O Adekunle (Rtd). The Vicar at the time was the Rev. Canon J.A Akinyonlanu (Late). Also, during this time, the church became the head of Churches within the Ile-Oluji West P.D.C.C.
The Second Vicarage was completed and was dedicated by The RT. Revd Abel Oluyemi Ajibodu, Bishop Diocese of Ile-Oluji on July 4th, 2021.
DEDICATION
Few years after the inauguration of the Diocese of Ile-Oluji, the Pioneer Bishop, the RT. Rev. S.O Adekunle (Rtd.) discovered that the church building was only blessed for use and thereafter instructed the Priest and the entire congregation during one of his Episcopal visits to put in place everything that is needed for the official dedication of the Church Building.
To the Glory of God, the official dedication was done on 5th July, 2014 by The RT. Rev S.O Adekunle (Rtd.).
We are grateful to God Almighty who put it in the mind of the Bishop. May God’s name be praised in Jesus’ name.
