As part of the Service for the day, and in commemoration of the Triumphant entry of Jesus Christ to Jerusalem, members of the Church had marched round the City Centre in victory and prayers holding the symbolic palm fronts, led by the Ven. Olasunkanmi Afolabi. Amongst others, the Ven. Afolabi prayed for the salvation of souls and progress of Ile-Oluji. Afterwards members returned to the Church to continue the service for the day.
The Sermon was taken by the Ven. O Afolabi, who said Palm Sunday signifies victory over sin, marking the end of Jesus’ earthly ministry and the start of Holy week.
He described today as one which commemorates the day Jesus Christ victoriously entered Jerusalem and where everyone shouted “Hosanna”, meaning “Come and Deliver us”. He said with happening in Nigeria and around the globe today, it is obvious that we need to call “Hosanna”.
He said the triumphant entry of Jesus into Jerusalem symbolizes Victory and eternal life to all Christians ( 1John 5: 11).
Lessons to learn from the life of Jesus Christ
- Son but learned obedience: Even though Jesus Christ has all power and authority he submitted t the will of the father.
- God with humble Beginning: Jesus never exalted himself above God (Philip. 2: 5-6) and was born in a manger.
- God but chose to live like a beggar: Despite having all, he lived humble so that we might have all. Hence, he is not a selfish God and Christians should always be considerate of others in all things.
- He did not make himself equal to God: Hence Christians should learn to honor whom honor is due. Also, those in authority show be mindful of those they lead.
- A man of Sorrow: He went through a lot for the sake of our salvation. Even though he was passing through a lot, He went about doing good.
- A man who died for His friends: This trait should be exhibited by all; especially in our homes, places of work, and community.
- A man whose delight is to do the will of the father: Christians should learn to work for God while they still have the strength.
- He left his Lordship to be governed by men for the sake of our salvation. Several people misuse positions of authority, it is important that Christians learn humility from Jesus Christ.
- He is a man with a caring heart.
- God with a servant-leadership style
- A father to the fatherless
- Husband to the widows
- A man who prays for His friends even when His friends fail to pray for him.
- A man who does not talk anyhow, rather bridles His tongue.
- He brings Joy to faces and lives (Luke 7:12).
- A man that is willing to give
- A hungry man who derives joy in feeding His friends.
